In front of the main facade of the Seo and very next to the right starting of the Bridge on the Ebro, the most important zaragozano civil building, the Market rises.
The one of Zaragoza, although builded later, emparenta directly with the markets of the other three kingdoms that formed Corona de Aragón: Barcelona, Majorca and Valencia and, like those, have its origin in the necessity to count on
noble building dedicated to the commercial transactions. To instances of the Archbishop Don Hernando de Aragón, the works began in 1541, according to the plan of Juan de Sariñena and, ten years later, as the gothic legend remembers that crosses friso inner, the building were inaugurated.
La Lonja, with their brick typical exteriors of the Aragonese architecture of the time, has certain resonances florentinas of the previous century. The interior, work of Gil Morlanes son, presents/displays three supported ships of the same height in solid columns of cut jónico and covered by vaults with crucería starred, with florones of wood carved in the keys. In the bottom wall, a great blind arc is closed by friso dated in 1544 and shows the imperial shield of arms of Carlos V ranging by the lions of the city.
